About Us

We started Nordic Woods in 2024 with the goal of providing a top quality senior housing option for residents of the Brainerd Lakes area.  With Sarah being a Family Medicine physician and Tyler an Emergency Medicine physician, we have seen firsthand the challenges seniors face when entering an assisted living and the problems that can arise. We hope to provide a family oriented, welcoming atmosphere that feels like home. We have strong ties to the medical community in Brainerd/Baxter and believe our facility will be able to meet the emotional, physical, and medical needs of our residents unlike any other.  We really enjoy getting to know our residents and having our children involved in seeing how we care for people.  Our children also love running Bingo on Wednesdays during the summer.

Over the years, I gained experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Universal Worker, Registered Nurse, assisted living Director, and dialysis nurse manager. Throughout my career, I have remained committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care and leadership in senior healthcare. I believe every resident deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion, receiving the same level of care and attention that we would provide to our own loved ones. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family while camping, fishing, kayaking, four-wheeling, and riding motorcycles.

My parent has been a resident here for the past year, and our family could not be more grateful for the care she has received. After more than a decade of navigating assisted living and long-term care for both my mother and my grandparents, I’ve seen the very best—and unfortunately, some of the very worst. Nordic Woods stands at the very top of that list.

What sets Nordic Woods apart is its people. The staff provide compassionate, personalized care and truly know each resident. As a small community with only 20 resident rooms, Nordic Woods can notice subtle changes, build meaningful relationships, and tailor care to each person’s needs.

The homemade meals are wonderful, the atmosphere truly feels like home, and I have been continually impressed by the flexibility they demonstrate whenever our family has needed something outside the usual routine. Rather than saying, “That’s not how we do it,” their first response is, “How can we help?” That mindset is invaluable.

I also appreciate that Nordic Woods is locally owned. In an era when so many senior care organizations are driven by private equity and financial metrics, it is refreshing to see an organization where decisions clearly begin with the residents and families.

As someone with more than 20 years in healthcare administration, I understand how challenging it is to consistently deliver high-quality care while managing staffing, regulations, and financial pressures. That perspective makes me appreciate even more what the Nordic Woods team accomplishes every day. I highly recommend Nordic Woods.
